plant signals research

Vivent Biosignals is excited to share results of a project in plant-controlled irrigation. In collaboration with Hectar and Parfums Christian Dior, we have been demonstrating plant-driven irrigation systems utilizing direct plant feedback to conserve water and drive sustainable farming practices this summer.

In a world where agriculture is continually evolving, Vivent Biosignals introduces a new way of working: plant-driven agriculture. But how does this process work? The advanced biosensors collect real-time data on the water uptake of plants through the plants’ own electrical signaling network. Using this data, Vivent Biosignals’ diagnostic algorithms are activated. They analyze the signals emitted directly by the plants and provide real-time insights into their needs. This enables immediate feedback to irrigation systems and growers, allowing them to respond quickly to changing conditions.

During the hot Olympic summer, Vivent Biosignals teamed up with Hectar and Parfums Christian Dior to use Plant Feedback technology in flower cultivation in fields near Paris. The result? A reduction in the number of irrigations, a significant decrease in water consumption, and an increase in flower production.

Live Dashboard

Our team has successfully connected 16 plants to Vivent Biosensors. Our Live Dashboard  provides real-time insights into irrigation management by utilizing an artificial intelligence model to detect the presence of water stress in plants. The plants are monitored 24/7 and besides water uptake the nutrient status is monitored too.

Trial Results

The final results of the trial conducted together with Hectar and Parfums Christian Dior? We have successfully reduced irrigation frequency by a remarkable 4 times. This not only leads to significant resource savings but also promotes a more sustainable approach to agriculture. But that’s not all! The yield results are equally noteworthy. We’ve observed a 1.5 times increase in flower heads which are key to Parfums Christian Dior. Additionally, vegetative growth has surged by 1.8 times, indicating healthier and stronger plants. Eventually, this also resulted in better assimilation of calcium and potassium.

These successes highlight not only the effectiveness of the irrigation system but also the benefits of combining Machine learning technology with sustainable practices in farming. We look forward to expanding this positive impact and empowering our growers to achieve even more!
