“For this study, strawberry plants were infected by thrips, the contamination of which could be detected after only 2 days with an electrophysical sensor. This means a significant time saving compared with visual inspection.”
“We have used the Vivent sensors for over 2-yr. It opens up a new way of examining plant electrophysiological responses to exogenous stimuli with this tiny and smart tool. I personally appreciate all the help from Thomas and other staff at Vivent for their patient answers throughout my experiment period.”
“The scientific project we are working on requires data sharing as collaborators in different cities use the equipment and analyze data. The response from the Vivent team has been excellent. This concerns both technical support and the exchange of opinions with scientific staff from Vivent.”
“We were surprised and delighted by these results. Plant electrophysiology can effectively distinguish those plants where the PDI (plant defense inducers) has been effective. We are very interested to see how this technology can help both in our research efforts and on the farm.”
“Vivent plant sensors have allowed us to monitor electrical output in plants and reach important conclusions regarding the role of electrical signaling in plant defense. Vivent’s team has helped us with equipment set up, and data interpretation. They always responded promptly and worked with our university finance department to facilitate payment.”
Users can plot traces, daily amplitudes, and a “grow-wave” showing the natural growth rhythm of a plant.
Multiple machine learning based analyses are possible including but not limited to: -general stress, -calcium deficit, -drought, -grouped growth index (a plant health index), -synchronicity, -irrigation model.
Two silver electrodes are attached to a plant and its internal electrical signals are amplified and recorded. Our plant sensors can monitor up to 8 plants at the same time. The electrodes typically stay in place throughout the entirety of an experiment.
A live view of plant electrophysiology signals shows how plants are responding to current environmental conditions and when a plant reacts to a stressor, like a change in temperature or insect infestation. This information provides valuable evidence of differences in genetic backgrounds, growing conditions, and on the efficacy of treatments.
Vivent offers a 2 channel and a 8 channel device. Each channel can monitor 1 plant. Therefore, one can measure up to 8 plants with a single device.
To achieve statistical evidence, we suggest monitoring at least 64 plants with half in optimal condition, while the other half experiences a certain type of stimuli.
You can book a one-on-one demo of the dashboard from one of Vivent’s team members at the following link: One-on-one dashboard demo
Plants use internal electrical, hydraulic and chemical signalling networks to coordinate growth and defence. Electrical signals are some of the fastest to spread information across the entire plant. Vivent’s technology, and artificial intelligence, lets researchers interpret this information to measure plant health, and to diagnose stressful conditions e.g. pathogens prior to visible symptoms. In response to (a)biotic stimuli the ion transporters in many individual plant cells respond simultaneously, producing an electrical change characteristic of that stimuli. Advanced signal processing isolates this characteristic in different time scales and provides an accurate diagnosis of the plant’s condition in real time.
No, the plant signals available on the dashboard are a day old. Each night, new data is uploaded on the dashboard.
If you would like to see real-time reactions from the plants, you would need to connect to your device’s network and type 192.168.0.1 in your web browser.
Yes. As long as the device is connected to a wifi network, the data is automatically uploaded and is available on the dashboard. The dashboard can be accessed from anywhere. You could then monitor an experiment happening in a lab from the comfort of your home.
Yes, we can provide watertight cases to protect the plant sensors.
The plant sensors do require mains power or solar panels as well as wifi or a 4G connection.
