30% cost reduction in water and fertiliser use for Morao Arándanos

Morao Arándanos is a Colombian company specializing in the cultivation of high-quality blueberries (arándanos), grown in high-altitude regions using sustainable agricultural practices.

Green Laniel is Vivent Biosignals’ U.S. distributor, providing localized installation, training, and support. It works closely with its sub-distributor, Agroespacios, on this project.

Water usage has been significantly lower compared to what we normally apply to the rest of the farm. And in terms of nutrition, since fertilisation is applied together with irrigation, costs have been reduced by around 30% in both water consumption and fertilizer usage”

Agronomic challenge

Morao Arándanos grows blueberries in polytunnels in Colombia and wanted to understand how Vivent sensors could be integrated to improve overall crop management and handling practices.

Results and client benefits

Shortly after installation, the team identified an issue with the drippers in one group. This insight allowed them to gradually adjust irrigation in one of the groups using the Vivent Biosignals water model. The results: reduced water usage, improved fruit quality, and better nutrient uptake in the treated plants.

1. Reduced water usage
2. Reduced fertilizer costs
3. Improved fruit quality

From claims to quantified proof

Moving beyond trial-and-error toward evidence-driven agronomy

By integrating Vivent Biosignals’ technology, Morao Arándanos moved from assumptions about crop performance to continuous, data-driven insight into plant behavior. This enabled more precise decision-making in irrigation and crop management, reducing uncertainty in day-to-day operations and improving overall consistency in fruit quality.

Why it matters
Beyond operational improvements, the real value lies in turning plant-level signals into measurable evidence of crop response, allowing Morao to validate management decisions in real time. This shift from intuition to quantification strengthens both agronomic control and long-term productivity in protected blueberry cultivation.

Plants know best — and now they can show it.

“The information is available immediately, allowing you to see exactly what is happening with the plants in real time, process the data, and make the necessary adjustments.”
